RECOMMENDED: ELduO

ELduO are: Andy Wood [L] and Ben Jones [R] ...
Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! They are friends of ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] and now my ELO loving buddies Andy Wood [alias Fruity Buckfoot] and Ben Jones have joined up to form ELduO - who are in their own words "... a long distance musical duo based on their mutual love of ELO and family!"

Andy, who is from County Durham in the north east of England, and Ben, a native of Swansea in South Wales, have just released the very first ELduO single "A Rock 'n' Roll Christmas [Like The Ones We Used To Know]" as well as an instrumental track entitled "The King Falls" and a new tune called "Send Me Back" [written by Ben Jones]. You can have a listen to them all here thus:

"A Rock 'n' Roll Christmas [Like The Ones We Used To Know]" is available to download from iTunes and amazon.co.uk thus:

iTunes.apple.com/gb/store/ELduO/single/a-rock-n-roll-christmas
amazon.co.uk/store/single/ELduO/a-rock-n-roll-christmas

Earlier this week, Yours Truly KJS caught up with Andy and Ben and took the opportunity to ask them one or three questions about their new ELO themed project:

KJS: Please tell me how and why you and Ben created ELduO?
Andy: Ben commented on my live folk rock version of "Showdown" on YouTube and I replied to him. We then started emailing - then phoning - and then I did a video/song for Ben's appearance on "Golden Balls". After that I went to Wales for Ben's 50th birthday party and we have been firm friends ever since! Ben wrote a cracking song called "No Answer" and he sent me the chords/lyrics with a mp3 of him playing and singing it. I demoed it in early ELO style and ELduO was born!
KJS: What was the motivation for your new Christmas single?
Andy: I wrote the song a while ago and I felt that the 40th anniversary of 'That Song' was a very apt time to do it so I got in touch with Ben, who came "oopt North" to record it with me!
KJS: What can we expect from ELduO in 2014?
Andy: The ELduO group will feature whatever we work on. There's a new song by Ben called "Send Me Back" coming soon. It's a concept of "Eldorado" meets "Time"! Ben plays guitar and sings on it and I have added loads of synthesisers, bass and vocoder. There will be much more to come!
KJS: How can folks find out more about ELduO?
Andy: There is not much more to know about ELduO yet, but keep an eye out in our Facebook group and on Reverbnation, where we will update regularly.
KJS: And what are the fave ELO, Move, Roy Wood and Idle Race songs of ELduO?
Andy: In order: "10538 Overture" [my all time favourite record]; "Blackberry Way"; "Dear Elaine" and "Sea Of Dreams".
Ben: "Please No More Sad Songs" [The Idle Race]; "No Time" [The Move]; "Ocean Breakup" [ELO]; "Miss Clarke And The Computer" [Roy Wood]; "Ball Park Incident" [Wizzard]

ELduO will be also coming to iTunes soon but in the meantime you can check what Andy Wood and Ben Jones are up to via this link thus:

SJET103: THE TURN TO STONE RE-ISSUE MYSTERY [2]

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! You may recall that back in July, ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] posted an article about the rarity of the Jet/CBS re-issue of "Turn To Stone" in 1978 when Don Arden's Jet Records parted company with previous distributor and manufacturer United Artists Records thus:

In summary, it was allocated catalogue number #SJET103 [formerly #UP36313] and has rarely, if at all, been seen physically except as an acetate. Earlier this week, what is believed to be one of those rare "Turn To Stone" re-issue acetates, was sold on eBay for £217 and it looked like this:
ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] would like to hear from anyone with a physical copy of this ultra rare single - even a picture would be most appreciated!

CAUGHT LIVE: ELO AGAIN

Is It All White? ELO Again last night ...
Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The much anticipated debut of ELO tribute act ELO Again at The Robin 2 last night [Friday 22nd November] was immediately satisfied as the healthy audience was kept waiting for their appearance to the sound of the "Eldorado Finale" and the famed stomping intro music from ELO's OOTB 1978 'spaceship' tour.
E.T.A. were more than able support for ELO Again ...
And after support by the Birmingham based E.T.A., who covered American AOR classic bands such as Van Halen, Journey, REO Speedwagon and Foreigner in a loud yet impressive set, the South Wales based band entered the stage and went on to more than satisfy the enthusiastic crowd beginning with: "Standin' In The Rain" and ending with an encore of "Roll Over Beethoven".
The seven member troupe, resplendent in white outfits, the odd wig and replete with white cello and blue violin - proceeded to deliver those Jeff Lynne penned ELO songs that we all know and love. It was great to again hear "10538 Overture" and "Big Wheels" live. Their version of "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" was note perfect. The band were totally at ease with themselves as they plied their trade here in the ELO heartland of the West Midlands.
ELO Again really excelled with the rockier elements of the ELO song catalogue, particularly with "Do Ya", "Hold On Tight" and "Rock 'n' Roll Is King" as they capitalized upon the resurgence of interest in ELO after the glorious Jeff Lynne headline appearance at BBC Children In Need Rocks 2013 last week. All seven members were a credit to themselves and to the legacy of ELO. Of special note, for me, had to be the string antics of Gaelle Favre and Sarah Waycott as they filled the shoes [so to speak] of the original blue violinist Mik Kaminski and long respected ELO [and Wizzard] cellist Hugh McDowell.
ELO Again are: Colin Smith [Guitar/Lead Vocals]; Jim Ramsey [Bass Guitar/Vocals]; Mike [Chas] Holcombe [Piano/Keyboards]; Clive Smith [Percussion/Vocals]; Gaelle Favre [Violin]; Sarah Waycott [Cello] and Sion Dawson [Cello]. Check out the band via their official web site thus:

CAUGHT LIVE [3]: THE ABBEY ROAD EXPERIENCE

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! When Chris Brighton opened the evening with the words: "This is not a tribute. This is a celebration of the genius of The Beatles.", he couldn't have been more honest and accurate as the new look Abbey Road Experience delivered two [2] scintillating and entertaining sets of Beatles classics to a near full house at Aldridge Youth Theatre last night [Saturday 16th November].
The Abbey Road Experience are: Chris Brighton [Lead vocals/Guitar]; Colin Noon [Keyboards], Mike Tinsley [Vocals/Bass], Nick Mellor [Guitars] and Darren Ashford [Drums] delivered a superb rendition of the whole of the iconic Beatles #1 album "Abbey Road" live during the first set: "Come Together"; "Something"; "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"; "Oh! Darling"; "Octopus's Garden"; "I Want You [She's So Heavy]"; "Here Comes the Sun"; "Because"; Medley: "You Never Give Me Your Money"/"Sun King"/"Mean Mr. Mustard"/"Polythene Pam"/"She Came In Through The Bathroom Window"/"Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight"/"The End"; "Her Majesty"
Classic Beatles followed during a marvellous second set which included: "Nowhere Man""Don't Let Me Down""Drive My Car""If I Needed Someone""Lady Madonna""In My Life""And Your Bird Can Sing""Let It Be""Paperback Writer", "Fixing A Hole""Help!""Get Back""Taxman""While My Guitar Gently Weeps""Let It Be""Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band""Back In The USSR""Got To Get You Into My Life" and "Hey Jude". The highlights for me were the George Harrison composed covers [especially "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"] with the immaculate and awe inspiring guitar craft of Nick Mellor [as it was throughout the concert] and the clear, soaring lead vocals of Chris Brighton. The inspiration for the conception of The Electric Light Orchestra [ELO] and the influence of The Beatles over Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood was there for all to see and hear.
Yours Truly KJS sincerely hopes that there are more added in the near future to their current gig roster. There are several Abbey Road Experience gigs coming up in 2014 thus:.

RECOMMENDED: OLDIES UNLIMITED

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] is pleased and proud to support not only local, national and international independent artistes in the ELOBF universe but also local businesses in Wolverhampton such as Oldies Unlimited. For many years Yours Truly KJS has trawled second hand record shops looking for elusive ELO [and related] rarities. Hence, with vinyl making somewhat of a comeback and there having been quite a few ELO & Jeff Lynne LP releases in the last year or so, it really is great to still have independent record shops plying their trade.
ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] recommends Oldies Unlimited to those enlightened folks who enjoy the music of ELO, Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, The Move, The Idle Race, 'Brum Beat', The Beatles and related artistes.

BIG REUNION AIM TO TOP CHART WITH WIZZARD CLASSIC

The stars of The Big Reunion having a Wizzard time recording Roy's Christmas classic ...
Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Question: Wouldn't it be great to see a Roy Wood penned song rightfully back at the top of the UK Singles Chart again? Answer: There is a reasonable possibility of that happening this year due to the recent announcement on Wednesday 23rd October that a charity Christmas single will be released on Sunday 15th December via Universal Music in aid of the ITV umbrella charity Text Santa.
The single has been recorded by the stars of The Big Reunion - namely Blue, B*witched, Atomic Kitten, 5ive, Liberty X and Honeyz - and is a cover of the seasonal Wizzard favourite that we all know and love: "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday". ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] will, of course, publish ordering details when known. In an article written by Dr. Wood which appeared in The Birmingham Mail on Sunday 3rd November, Roy details the history of the iconic song from its conception in the Summer of 1973 up to and including the new version. You can read that article here thus:

birminghammail.co.uk/roy-wood/how-i-wrote-wizzard-christmas-classic

In the above article, Roy candidly writes: "Fast-forward to 2013 and I find I’m ready to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song. I never thought, back in 1973, that people would still be listening to it after all this time. It wasn’t even the biggest-selling Christmas record of that year. Now it’s just been adopted by The Big Reunion for the TV show’s challenge to The X Factor for the festive chart-topper. People from Blue, B*witched, Atomic Kitten, 5ive, Liberty X and Honeyz are teaming up for it. I’m absolutely delighted. From a songwriter’s point of view, it’s always really interesting to hear other people’s interpretation of your music. I’m looking forward very much to hearing their version of the song. I wish them all the very best of luck and success, and hope that this charity campaign for ITV’s Text Santa gets all the support that it truly deserves."
Roy Wood is at The Robin 2 on Thursday 12th and Birmingham Symphony Hall on Monday 16th December
Roy Wood will be playing two gigs in the Midlands with his Rock 'n' Roll Band as part of his seven date: "Rock 'n' Roll Christmas Party" UK tour during December. This ELOBF article details the dates and venues thus:

REVIEW: THIS IS WHO I AM [Esa Linna]

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! It really was a pleasant surprise to be contacted by independent Finnish Power Pop and rock recording artiste Esa Linna earlier this week. Esa kindly forwarded me his latest album "This Is Who I Am" [Castello Recordings; 22/02/13] to have a listen to on behalf of ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF].

"She's not a human being, She doesn't like Jeff Lynne ..."

Esa told me that the final track on the album "She's Not A Human Being" even mentions Jeff Lynne within its chorus! Esa explains why in this web site article thus:

"The lyrics of "She's Not A Human Being" are very simple, silly and very tongue-in-cheek. At first, I was going to write a first love song for my wife [back in 2006, when I recorded the first demo of the song] but as married couples often do, we had a strong argument about something [that] I just can't remember. The love song was not an option at the time, so I wrote the lyrics about our cat instead - REVENGE! There is a glimpse of truth in the words - she didn't always like the loud guitar playing and there is a maple tree on the front of our house. And of course she was hairy all over the place and her eating of little birds was not so fun to watch. I am talking about our cat here, not my wife! The Jeff Lynne -reference is there because I had to have a somewhat matching rhyme, and also I am a fan of Jeff Lynne's work - mostly in The Move, ELO and Tom Petty records. So the reference is there because it's a homage to Mr. Lynne and I think Roger Joseph Manning Jr. [on backing vocals & keyboards] understood it that way too - just look at the T-Shirt he's wearing in this photo!"
Roger Joseph Manning Jr. [c/w Jeff Lynne T-Shirt]
with 'ELO Kiddie' Robin Zander [Cheap Trick]
"This Is Who I Am" is a  fine ten track guitar driven album with catchy riffs and some sweet vocal harmonies that oozes the influence of Tom Petty, ELO, Jeff Lynne and The Beatles throughout. From the opener "A Drop In The Ocean" [a cracking rock song that declares the intent of the album] to the acoustic anthem "Dawnbreaker" [with its sympathetic strings and relaxing feel] to "Don't Know What It's All About" [a classy TP influenced track and is a really impressive tune] to my co-favourite "False Flag Show" [a beautiful string backed ELOesque track which most certainly owes its inspiration to both Jeff Lynne and The Beatles] through to the album closer - and my other fave "She's Not A Human Being" [with guest vocals and keyboards from Jellyfish founder Roger Joseph Manning Jr.], another superb example of Power Pop guitar licked rock fusion! The whole album is a well crafted production and a credit to the multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter who is Esa Linna. [9/10]

Trax: [01] "A Drop In The Ocean" [featuring Milja Linna]; [02] "Dawnbreaker"; [03] "DIY"; [04] "Don't Know What It's All About"; [05] "False Flag Show"; [06] "Meat Market"; [07] "New Address Tonight"; [08] "Progression"; [09] "Reuna"; [10] "She's Not A Human Being" [featuring Roger Joseph Manning Jr.]
