LOUIS CLARK: GET SOME PERSPEKTIV

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Lovers of the classic ELO sound from "Eldorado" onwards will no doubt appreciate those sweeping orchestral arrangements of Louis Clark that intertwined with the song writing genius of Jeff Lynne.

Seasoned fans will know that Lou was an integral member of ELO Part II and is still "pulling the strings" with The Orchestra [former members of ELO & ELO Part II] as well as performing his "Hooked On Classic" exploits amongst many others.

But back in 1978, while ELO were on their "Out of the Blue" spaceship [world] tour, Lou wrote and released an album on Jet Records oddly entitled "(per-spek'-tiv)n." [#JETLP218]. This album was re-released on CD in 2000 by Edsel Recordings/Demon Records [#EDCD633] and Yours Truly KJS was intrigued enough to buy a copy from amazon.co.uk to satisfy my curiositylast week.

And it was a great decision! This orchestral album - in essentially two [2] parts - in many ways displays Louis' own song writing talents as well as his well known and well loved string arrangements. The recording reminds this writer [obviously] of those wonderful ELO [and ELO Part II] interludes but also one also thinks of contemporaries of this album such as those by Sky - remember "Tocata"? There are no fellow ELO members on here [for obvious reasons - see above!] but making an appearance are Roy WoodHartley Cain [a close associate of Raymond Froggatt] and Peter Van Hooke [later to be percussionist for Mike & The Mechanics, amongst many others]. You can still get a hold of this tremendous album which is part of the ELO/Jet legacy from amazon.co.uk so if you love the classic ELO sound, this CD will give you a new perspective on it!

CAUGHT LIVE: THE ABBEY ROAD EXPERIENCE

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The Beatles' last recorded album "Abbey Road" [released on Friday 26th September 1969] is in many ways an enigma in and of itself - an example being the classic ballad "Something" followed by the quirky and dark "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". The whole LP was a tour de force of all the qualities that The Beatles espoused in their career. Yours truly KJS has been playing this classic recording in my car non-stop for the last few weeks in advance of my trip to see The Abbey Road Experience at The Feathers Inn at Lichfield, Staffordshire last night. And it was good preparation for this much anticipated gig. I travelled to foggy Lichfield with my good friend Pete Dicks from Beatles and Beyond Radio full of expectation and that expectation was not at all misplaced as this new project performed - almost note for note - the whole "Abbey Road" set superbly.

The first half of the show comprises the seventeen [17] songs that made up "Abbey Road" from "Come Together" through the "Abbey Road Medley" to "Her Majesty". Needless to say, it was extremely moving for this writer to hear, "Golden Slumbers" and "Carry That Weight" live for the first time. The second half of the show saw this talented band cover more Beatles classics, mainly from "Rubber Soul" onwards. From "Get Back" to "Across The Universe" to "In My Life" to "The Long And Winding Road" to "If I Needed Someone" to "Let It Be" and "Hey Jude" ... the band produced a phenomenal and professional suite of songs to have the whole audience totally engaged and wildly appreciative. A bostin' Beatles gig indeed!
The Abbey Road Experience were: Chris Brighton [Guitar/Vox], Phil Bates [Guitar/Keys/Vox], Derek Holt [Bass/Keys/Vox], Steve James [Drums/Percussion/Vox] as well as Pete Hughes [Keys/Percussion] and they'll be back playing more gigs (including a date at The Robin 2) later this year. We look forward to seeing this great new live band grow and develop. Find out more about The Abbey Road Experience via their official web site thus:

JET RECORDS DISCOGRAPHY

The familiar Jet Records label which often greeted ELO fans ...
Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Most ELO fans will be aware that the bands most commercially successful period in the UK and USA were when they were signed to Don Arden's Jet Records label between 1974 and 1983.

The label was distributed by IslandPolydor, United Artists and CBS Records in the period in which we saw multiple Arden managed ELO related and other artistes signed to Jet [sometimes it was jokingly named 'Jeff Records' by insiders!], including Mik Kaminski's ViolinskiPhil Bates' Trickster and Wilson Gale amongst many others. I had the idea the other day to create a new Facebook group entitled JET RECORDS to explore the career of this enigmatic ELO dominated label and the artistes it featured.
Jet Records were sometimes jokingly renamed 'Jeff Records' by insiders ...
Quite by accident, Yours Truly KJS has also discovered a most interesting and informative web site which lists the most expansive discography of the Jet Records career that I've come across to date. There's even an entry for the aborted second ELO EP [#ELO2] and the May 1978 re-issue of the ELO single "Turn To Stone" [#SJET103] - both rarities deserving of more ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] investigation in future days.

By clicking on the above link, you can check out the decade plus long career of a record label that hosted "the finest rock band in the world" [quoting the words of the late, great Tony Curtis].

NO ANSWER TO ELDORADO

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! This week has seen ELO Beatles Forever [ELOBF] take delivery of the of the 40th Anniversary Edition of ELO's 1972 debut album "The Electric Light Orchestra" [Harvest/EMI #SHVL797] in CD/DVD and GLP formats. 2012 is turning out to be a good year so far for ELO re-issues - particularly in 180g vinyl - being as ELO's classic 1974 album "Eldorado: A Symphony by The Electric Light Orchestra" [#MOVLP469] was also released in 180g back in January thus:

Unfortunately, Yours Truly KJS didn't get the opportunity to buy an original issue of ELO album #1 [also known as "No Answer" in the US] or the original Warner Bros. release of "Eldorado" [#K56090] when I was attempting to collect the ELO back catalogue back in the day. I did however nab a copy of the Jet/CBS yellow vinyl edition of "Eldorado" [#JETLP203] and the later single sleeved Fame/EMI re-issue of "The Electric Light Orchestra" [#FA3084] in 1984. It's been really great buying new 12" vinyl and packaging again - even though my turntable went south years ago! If you're still pining for the return of vinyl and [like me] reminiscing about ELO's golden period, you could do no worse than invest in this duo of ELO classic albums in their original formats?

EPO & ELO PERFORMING CLASSIC ELDORADO

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! By now you should be aware that Louis Clark will be back-to-back touring the UK with both the English Pops Orchestra [EPO] performing "Hooked On Classics - Live" and "Symphonic Beatles - Live" between Friday 25th May and Saturday 2nd May [see posters above and below for further details].

General Manager/Music Director of the EPO - Andy Smith - has just posted some fantastic footage of the EPO performing "Eldorado Overture" and "Eldorado Finale" on YouTube either side of some original footage of ELO playing "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" thus:

This video montage really does do justice to all three pieces of music [and both artistes] whilst adding to the anticipation of the forthcoming tour. You can purchase tickets for the seven shows at the official "Hooked On Live" web site thus:

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! The tracks were "You Never Give Me Your Money", "Medley #1: Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "Medley #2: Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End".

The session was also filmed and hopefully a video will be also posted on their official web site soon. There are still four dates left for you to consider attending. Find out where via the official Abbey Road Experience web site and/or the latest ELOBF gig guide thus:

CAUGHT LIVE [6]: THE ELO EXPERIENCE

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Any band that can successfully transpose the ELOquent production values of Jeff Lynne to the live stage deserves recognition at the very least in the opinion of this writer. And so it is when it came to attending the latest gig by the The ELO Experience last night in Shrewsbury last night.

The Hull based band produced another superb and professional show at the fantastic Theatre Severn, translating that well-loved and familiar ELO back catalogue onto the live stage with much success. Their seamless performance the first half of "Concerto For A Rainy Day" in "Standin' In The Rain" and "Big Wheels" was a stunning rendition of the classic ELO sound and a great tribute to the classic 1977 album "Out Of The Blue". But to also see and hear an excellent version of "Latitude 88 North" and the latest addition to their set in "Strange Magic" made the evening a real musical treat. Having started the concert with "All Over The World", it was fitting that the final [encore] song of the evening was "Mr. Blue Sky". I will say it again: All this band needs now is an eclectic violinist! Check out The ELO Experience and/or their tour dates via these links thus:

TWO EXPERIENCES TONIGHT: ELO & ABBEY ROAD

Hello ... Hello ... my old friends ... It's great to see you once again! Today is one of those rare occasions when Yours Truly KJS is double booked. Friday 9th March will see not only another visit to The Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury to see The ELO Experience with friends and family, it will also see the debut gig for The Abbey Road Experience at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford - a gig that I would have dearly loved to attend too!

There will be more opportunities to see both ELOBF recommended artistes later this month here in the Midlands [click on this link to see where] so if you are at a loose end tonight, you could do no worse than come to either of these concerts and support these fine musicians!
